A Knitter's List
10 questions to get to know knitter's better.
What was your very first knitting project, and do you still have it?
I would say that my first project that I remember and was pleased with was this huge scarf. I found the pattern in a magazine and got the yarn in our local yarn store. Only one skein needed - and it was a huge skein. It was 150 g fluffy mohair alpaca blend. Knit on huge needles and it was a very cosy scarf.
Which project are you most proud of, and why?
Hard to choose. Of course I’m very proud over all the knitted garments in my first book, but I think it may be the cardigan I’m working on right now, for my next book. I think it’s gonna be a banger.
What kind of yarn do you reach for most often (fiber, weight, or feeling)?
Wool, always. When it comes to weight I would say either 300 m on 100 g or 200 m on 100 g. I love knitting colorwork, cables and structure in 2 and 3 ply wool yarn. And the yarn has to have a bit of character and be a bit rustic - love it!
Do you prefer knitting in silence, with music, or with something on in the background? What’s your go-to?
It totally depends on my mood! I knit while watching TV, reading books, listening to music, podcasts and everything.
Where is your favorite place to knit?
I love to sit in my chair in our living room and knit. It’s a very comfy chair!
Which mistake has taught you the most as a knitter?
Hm. Maybe that swatching is not just for measuring stitch and row count. Swatching is like trying your piece and to swatch a lot when trying new ideas. Also, a swatch can really give you inspiration and a kick in the butt!
Are you a process knitter or a product knitter, or somewhere in between?
I’m something in between. I usually knit to be able to make it into a pattern so often times I knit for the numbers haha.
What’s a technique you’d love to master (but maybe keep putting off)?
Intarsia! Some day :)
If your knitting had a “season,” what would it be right now, and why?
Haha, hibernation? Nah, I just have a period of not being so inspired to actually knit. Trying to get out of it (as I got a knitting book to write this year!)
What does knitting give you that nothing else quite does?
Mindfullness, creativeness, empowerment and the clothes I see in my mind.
